UNSW 'Blue'

Blues Award

UNSW's highest award for sporting proficeincy and sportmanship is a University Blue. The requirements for the award of a Blue for Athletics are contained in the Club By-Laws, and are summarised below.

A nominee shall:

  1. The nominee shall have satisfied Clause 5 of the UNSW Sport and Recreation Policy regarding Blues awards.
  2. The nominee shall be student proceeding to a degree or diploma at the University for the years for which that person is nominated.
  3. The nominee shall be an outstanding performer and during the period of consideration equal or better the Blues Standard approved by the Blues Committee at least once at an appropriate tournament, and achieve at least two other performances at a high standard. These performances could include a major placing (i.e. 1st-3rd) at University Games, State or National Championships in their nominated event. Where an event is infrequent (e.g. decathlon) the required number of additional performances may be reduced to one. 
  4. For a minimum of two years have actively participated in the event at the highest that the club competes for at least 75% of events the person is elegible.
  5. Have participated in at least one Australian University Games competition for which the person is nominated.
  6. At all times uphold the ideals of the University and sportsmanship

Cross Country has no defined standard due to the nature of irregular distances and courses, but consitent high performances in line with the initial statements above must be met.
